Our New Feathered Friends!

When Auntie Kat and her family were here last week, we spent lots of time outside playing the backyard. One afternoon, we all noticed a birds nest perched on one of the corner fence posts. So, of course, we had to check it out. I was surprised that a bird had built her nest so in the open, but I guess it really is sheltered from the wind where it is located. We took a peek inside and saw three beautiful blue eggs. It was pretty exciting to know that we would soon have three new feathered friends. The mommy bird kept a close eye on us when we were checking out her babies, but she didn't seem too bothered by us. On Sunday, Joe was in the backyard and took a peek inside the nest. He saw that one of the eggs had hatched. There was a "so ugly" it was cute looking baby birdie nestled among the two remaining eggs. Yesterday we noticed that Momma bird was doing alot of gathering and feeding. So we took another peek and found the other two eggs had hatched also. I haven't had a chance to look today, but I can't wait to keep watching the babies grow. I am sure we will be sad the day the leave the nest. Grow little birdies, grow!

Wow! That was quick! I am still wondering what kind of bird she is, and where that absent Daddy bird is! Usually there are two, unless this is typical for this species... or something happened to poor Daddy bird. Glad the babies are doing well!
